The Vision

Black and white buildings in Chester

The Chester Renaissance Vision

Over the next 10 years Chester will be revitalised by £1.5 billion worth of investment that will change the face of the city while preserving and enhancing its unique character.

The Chester Renaissance is a programme of major developments that will reenergise and reshape Chester bringing premier retail sites, affordable housing, luxury accommodation and top class restaurants to the area. Importantly, the project will also remain loyal to the city's heritage by regenerating areas of historic importance.

...becoming a must see European destination

Delivered by public and private partners with funding from various sources, the development will help Chester achieve its goal of becoming a "must see European destination" rivaling other leading Northwest retail centres.

The Chester Renaissance will protect Chester's past while shaping a bright future for the city and several landmark developments are already underway.

At the heart of the Renaissance is the £400 million Northgate Development which will create a vibrant new quarter with a refurbished town hall at its centre. Shops, restaurants, homes and offices will be created alongside a flagship House of Fraser department store. A new market, library, arts centre and bus station, will ensure it retains its key community focus.

Protecting Chester's past, shaping a bright future

Chester station and other historically important buildings will benefit from a £10 million regeneration project. This will create a key gateway into the city, improving the travelling experience for bus and rail passengers and increasing the retail and commercial activity in the surrounding areas.

The £50 million Castle Gateway development will see luxury apartments and office space developed on the site of the old Police HQ. The prestigious ABode at Chester hotel will offer first-class luxury accommodation and fine dining with stunning views over the Welsh hills.

The site of the old Delamere Street bus station will come to life as a vibrant new quarter providing homes, offices, retail opportunities and a new public car park in a £34 million project. Over the next 10 years Chester will be revitalised by £1.4 billion worth of investment that will change the face of the city while preserving and enhancing its unique character.

The Chester Renaissance Board

The Chester Renaissance programme is overseen by a Board of influential people from the public, private and voluntary sectors who share the vision for the city and whose involvement is essential if it is to be achieved.

The Board, with Chester City Council, is also responsible for the Culture Park programme, the package of projects to enhance Chester's culture and heritage assets and public realm as part of the Chester Renaissance.
