27th March: Station plans on display

21 March 2007

Members of the public, local businesses and rail users are being invited to find out more about a £10 million improvement scheme for Chester Station and the surrounding areas.

The regeneration programme will deliver a wide range of improvements over the next five years including a re-modelled concourse, a new station square, and architectural lighting for the station facade.

The Gateway Partnership, which is delivering the programme, is inviting people to view artists' impressions and discuss plans at an informal event on 27th March. The event is being held in the Victoria Room of the Queen Hotel in City Road from 1pm to 8pm.

Chair of the Gateway Partnership, Mike Ross from Cheshire County Council`s transport department explained: "The improvements in and around Chester Station will create an attractive and welcoming gateway into the city and enhance a number of historically important buildings. We want to tell people what the scheme involves and, in particular, what will be happening over the next twelve months. This event offers everyone a chance to chat to the people delivering the improvements, have their questions answered and view the exciting plans to improve an important area of Chester.'

The Gateway Partnership includes Arriva Trains Wales, Cheshire County Council, Chester City Council, Merseyrail, Merseytravel, Network Rail, North West Development Agency, Railway Heritage Trust, Virgin Trains and Visit Chester & Cheshire.

More information about the project can be found on the city council's website: www.chester.gov.uk
